If all else fails, make a list…

There are a million and 1 ways to define what a successful person is.  There are probably that many people, at least, that feel they’re lives are unsuccessful, and they have nothing to contribute to society.  Even worse, there are people who are extremely successful.  You know the ones, they have money, looks, celebrity….etc, etc.  What’s worse is that these people feel that anyone who does not have success comparable to their’s are worth nothing, and they show it.  I’ve been feeling like a failure lately because my life is nothing like I’d imagined it would be.  So, I’ve decided to create a list to show some of the things that qualify  as success.

You know you are a successful person when you are able to achieve any or all of these abilities…

1. At least 1 person looks up to you.

2. You can make people laugh.

3. You’re dependable.

4. When you  make a mistake or do someone harm, you are able to claim it, own it, and make amends with no excuses.

5. You are able to enjoy the simple things in life.

6. There is at least 1 person in  your life who will listen to your old  stories again and again, and will do so as if they’re hearing them for the first time.

7. You love and live your life with compassion.

8. When you find something you love to do, you  continue to do it whether you’re the best or the worst.

9. You don’t have to look to money, things or other people to find self worth and value.

10. My 9 year old son came to sit on my lap, and was reading what I’m writing. He had this to say, “I think you’re successful when you are able to finish a hard project.”  There it is…the simplistic,  but in most ways, the most truthful takes on life come from kids.

That really works, if all else fails, make a list.

Of course you may have your own list, this is just a start.  Feel free to share with me your own list.
