people watching

Lately I have been watching people closely.  I don’t know what’s driving the obsession, but everywhere I go, I purposely listen in to snippets of conversations.  And when I’m fortunate enough to hear the same person speaking in different groups, I find myself feeling even more intrigued.

We all criticize celebrities for being fake, and just acting for the camera or the adoring fans or critics that flock to them.  But when we think about it, don’t most of us do the same thing?  Think about it for a moment.  Who are you when you’re with your family versus when you’re with your best friends?  Who are or were you on a first date, with a spouse, girlfriend, or boyfriend?  Who are you at work versus who are you in a party full of strangers?  Who are you when you’re face to face with your worst enemy?  Or think about who you are while holding a baby or a puppy.  Are any of these the same person that you see when you look in the mirror?  Most of us are different people in all of these different situations.

But you know, I noticed an interesting thing, or concept or whatever you want to call it.  If you observe closely, the people who we would consider quirky, or a little on the crazy side are not much different in any situation they are in. They just  don’t seem to feel or understand that the behavior’s you exhibit at home in your bathrobe may not necessarily be the ones you want to exhibit when you’re in a restaurant. They stay true to who they are at all times, and are totally comfortable with that.  Does that mean that we all need a little more crazy in our lives?  Or is it a good thing to have “manymeez” all wrapped up into one package?  But whether  you consider yourself to be in the “manymeez” category or you’re most comfortable letting out a stinker in the middle of a black tie event, you are you.  But I can guarentee  you that the people who you let in on your bathrobe moments, will see that there’s probably a little quirky in all of us.

LOL; I watch people all the time. Of course; that is my job. It is truly amazing to hear the little bits of conversation, and well to be honest; what are people thinking when they walk out of the house wearing the clothes they have on. It is free entertainment, and if you can stand back and just look at the world go by; it gives you a perspective of how much we all have in common and differ at the same moments.

Yeah Bobby, I certainly hope you’re watching…and I’m sure you’re good at it. But you’re right, people watching can sometimes be better than a good book. Very entertaining. It’s amazing, but we all do have more in common than we don’t. All over the world, we really kinda want the same basic things. You would think that would pull us all closer together rather than everybody fightin’. I ask that all of the time, “Why can’t we all just get along?”
